Laying Down Track – The Monday Morning Ritual

by Lauri

In her book and in her TED Talk, Shonda Rhimes talks about laying down track…. While Shonda is talking about laying the track of the stories for all of her hit TV Shows, I think we all know that feeling of laying track…

“In one way or another, this TV season, I’m responsible for bringing about 70 hours of programming to the world. Four television programs, 70 hours of TV — Three shows in production at a time, sometimes four. Each show creates hundreds of jobs that didn’t exist before. The budget for one episode of network television can be anywhere from three to six million dollars….

Can you feel the pressure of that train coming?

I feel my own pressure train coming at least once a week … usually every Monday morning. Mine goes something like this …

“4 free audio programs a year, 52 Monday blogs, 52 Thursday emails, 250+ daily quotes, free webinars, workshops, the Immersion program and let’s not forget that audio book everyone’s waiting for …

4 free audio programs, Monday blogs, Thursday emails, daily quotes, webinars, workshops, programs and “oh yes” that audio book …

Audios, blogs, emails, quotes, webinars, workshops and the audiobook – Oh My!”

Can you feel the pressure of that train coming?

We all have our version of that pressure train …

What’s your version of laying down track?

How does your resistance to it show up?

What’s the resistance about?  I think every time I pause and take a break there’s a small part of me that’s convinced I lost the muse while I was hiking, sleeping or taking a hot bath.

In order to move through the resistance, I often grab my laptop and head downtown to Philz Coffee.  I’m still not sure whether it’s the caffeine that gets me moving or the buzz of everyone else’s energy.  The truth is, its probably a little of both.

Actions like heading to Philz coffee, dancing around my living room, talking it out with a colleague or standing on my head help me break up the inertia and get the muse juices flowing again.  Each week I find my voice (again) and start creating … laying the track.

How do you move through the resist-dance? …

With passion, love,
(and hopefully a dash of the muse juice … )
