Are you having a hard time with news of world events, Facebook feeds and Twitter wars these days?
You are not alone.
People all around me are losing heart, climbing under the covers and shutting the world out. I’ve got clients, friends and family who are physically sickened by the atmosphere these days.
Some change-makers, while called to do something to make their mark in the world and to improve things, are feeling depressed and unable to move forward as well.
After 9/11, we as a nation knew that one-way to fight terrorism was to refuse to let them stop us. Together, we got up and moved forward with life.
But 9/11 was an attack by someone else against US … How do we pick up and move forward when we (from our nation’s leaders to the average “Jane and John Doe”) are attacking each other verbally and on Facebook?
The process is the same. Get up and move forward with life.
One … Step … At … A … Time …
Is this easy? Absolutely not.
However, it’s absolutely necessary.
Release the Soul Suckers …
… those nasty voices may be telling you that you don’t matter. They say disaster is coming (or that its here) and there’s nothing you can do. YOU MATTER. You can help. One step, one breath, one person, one open-hearted conversation at a time, you can help bring positive, constructive energy back into the mix. Every little bit counts.
Root in a Sense of Purpose
Choose a value to honor during your interactions with others. As Michelle Obama said, “When they go low, we go high”. Go High! Please. We can do this together.
Get Back to the Business of Living
Get Some Space. Take breaks from the news. Step away from the Facebook feed on your iPhone. Focus on the actions in your life that you can control. Have dinner with your children. Order a cup of coffee with a kind smile. Lead a workshop. Attend a webinar. Show up and be the change you wish to be in the world, one action at a time…
“You have been telling the people that this is the Eleventh Hour,
now you must go back and tell the people that this is the Hour.
It is time to speak your Truth. And do not look outside yourself for the leader.
There is a river flowing now very fast. It is so great and swift that there are those who will be afraid. They will try to hold on to the shore. They will feel they are torn apart and will suffer greatly. Know the river has its destination. We must let go of the shore, push off into the middle of the river, keep our eyes open, and our heads above water. Gather yourselves! We are the ones we’ve been waiting for.”
