It’s Time To Be Seen

by Lauri

Why does being on camera bring up all our “stuff?”

Turn on that little green laptop video light or put a camera inches away from our faces and our inner critics go berserk!

They point out everything they think is wrong with us that we must fix before we could possibly be on camera.

5 years ago, my soul suckers came out in droves the day before a photo-shoot.

They told me that I had bushy eyebrows and bad hair.

They said I needed to lose 10 pounds and get a whole new wardrobe.

(Looking back, none of that was true.)

In the midst of this inner turmoil, I suddenly realized that all that soul sucking criticism was just a smoke screen. Their endless distracting critiques were really the Soul Suckers’ clumsy attempts to protect me from one of the things I longed for the most: BEING SEEN.

If I’d let my Soul Suckers take charge, I would’ve cancelled the photo shoot. Instead, I listened to a different voice inside …

My soul.

She whispered, “Love yourself exactly as you are. It’s time to be seen.”

I put my soul in the driver’s seat and stepped into the spotlight.

Being seen is one of our deepest human longings. It also scared us to death.

Being seen, truly seen, is vulnerable.

If your Soul Suckers are beating you up from the inside, if you’re avoiding shooting videos or speaking onstage, if telling your story calls to you but also seems insane …

You are not alone.

Being seen is a lifelong path. It’s also a path that can be walked

one … step … at … a … time.

Drop a ❤️ below if you can relate.
