Holiday Harmony: Get to the Heart of Hearing

by Lauri

My soul suckers made me yell at my mom!

She was hard of hearing.

It was 2014 and I was visiting her for the holidays as I did every year back then.

Whenever my mother couldn’t hear me, I would strain and push to be louder.

In other words, I would kinda yell at her.

It was all laced with my subconscious frustration at not being heard.

Maybe you’ve been there …

Our insecurities lurk in the background pulling our puppet strings at weird times that often have very little to do with the person in front of us or the moment in time that we’re in.

Those triggering things can come up with a family member who doesn’t wear their hearing aids, or with a coworker, or when we’re on a stage.

It’s funny and a little sad when I look back on it now, especially after having experienced what was possible that holiday season.

After asking my entire email list to do a soulful speaking challenge with their families over the holidays, I committed to walk my talk and do the challenge right along with them.

As we head into the holiday season this year, I felt called to share the story in a mini-sode as a way of bringing Soulful Speaking off the stage and into our lives.

Hear the full story on this week’s Soulful Speaking minisode, Holiday Harmony: Get to the Heart of Hearing.

It’s 11 minutes of pure magic.

Or listen on Apple Podcasts or Spotify.

With passion & love,
