The Turning Point
Years ago, even though I was on stage all the time as an actor, I secretly had a love–hate relationship with being seen.
One exercise in an acting class cracked my protective shell wide open.
The entire group was focused on me, throwing improv after improv my way. I kept trying to pull myself together between scenes when my teacher said,
“Don’t. Just be where you are. Let everything—tears included—flow.”
“I’m not that comfortable having everyone’s eyes on me,” I blurted.
He smiled. “You’ve chosen a strange set of careers for yourself, then. Part of you wants this.”
Part of me did. Part of me knew I was meant to be seen.
By the end of that exercise, my layers of protection had melted away.
I looked around the room and felt completely in tune with everyone there—seeing through their layers of protection to their hearts and souls.
It was a moment of oneness.
That moment became a doorway.
I crossed a threshold back into everything I’d been told I couldn’t or shouldn’t be my entire life:
Wild. Emotional. Raw. Intuitive. Untamed. Radiant.
I let go of who the world told me to be and remembered who I actually am.
That moment didn’t just shift how I showed up on stage.
It reshaped how I lead, how I love, and how I live.
On the other side, I found the primal life force that lives in all of us that makes us alive from head to toe.
When that primal force meets our purpose, we become magnetic.
