Your Story is Yours

by Lauri

Imagine. You finally landed that TEDx Talk.

You walk out onto the red carpet. The lights are shining on you, but you don’t see them. You don’t feel the carpet under your feet.

Instead of enjoying the moment, you’ve spent the entire morning obsessing over the fact that it’s recorded, and it’s going to live on the internet forever. You’ve gone through it again and again, worrying about every … single … WORD!

Sound familiar? The email you re-wrote nine times. The pitch you rehearsed until it stopped sounding like you. The post you deleted because one sentence felt “off,” even though you can’t say why.

I’ve spent decades watching mission-driven change-makers rewrite their message over and over and over again, searching for a phantom set of perfect words that doesn’t exist.

There is no perfect version of the truth. There’s only YOUR truth … said out loud, in whatever words felt right that day in that moment.

Your story is yours. Your message is yours. Your presence is yours.

The next time you turn on a camera, step on a stage, or open your mouth in a room that just went quiet, remember that.

And own it.

🎧 This reflection was sparked by a conversation with Oksana Lukash on the Untamed Leader Podcast, Say It Aloud: The Untamed Power of Asking.
